A Message from Pastor Kevin Dibbey

A Message from Pastor Kevin Dibbey

"God’s Church for God’s Mission" | Acts 13:1-4

This Sunday, we are returning to our study of the book of Acts, Luke’s second
volume in the New Testament. As we return to the book of Acts, I want to remind
you of a key truth this morning. Luke is recording for us the activity of the Triune
God in advancing His mission through his church. This is not merely the story of a
remarkable human religious movement. Luke does not want us to read the book
of Acts as a biography of a human missionary movement. This is the sovereign
hand of the Triune God fulfilling His promises in all of the Scriptures to bring the
nations to Himself through His Son. Acts is a record of the unstoppable mission of
God to reach the nations with the gospel. This is why New Testament scholar,
Alan Thompson entitles his commentary on Acts, “The Acts of the Risen Lord
Jesus: Luke’s Account of God’s Unfolding Plan." He writes, “Luke is drawing
attention to the continued outworking of God’s saving purposes specifically in the
inaugurated kingdom of God through the reign of the Lord Jesus . . . The focus of
the book of Acts is actually on God.” (The Acts of the Risen Lord Jesus, 29).

Friends, the news often rattles believers. The culture wars have throughout
history shaken Christians. It feels at times that evil will win. But as Luke will show,
the promises and prophecies of God never fail. It is in the darkness of the world
that Christ shines His light, and as He said, “I will build my church and the gates of
hell will not prevail against it.”

This Sunday, as we return to the study of Acts, let’s pray together that God would
fill our hearts with clarity of purpose and confident hope. The message is called
"God’s Church for God’s Mission" and we will look at Acts 13:1-4.

Looking forward to worshipping with you all this Sunday. Invite a friend.

Serving the Eaton Family

Serving the Eaton Family

Gina Eaton had surgery on 9/17, and part of her recovery is that she will need to lie flat for the first 10 days. We are hoping to fill as many of those days as possible, and then we would like to continue some support to lighten her load. Gina has made countless meals over the years to bless others.

Please prepare enough for 4 people, but some leftovers welcome to use for lunch the next day. They do not have an extra fridge/freezer!

*Please indicate what you are making in the comments, to avoid duplicates!

Thank you for blessing them!

Refugee Ministry Update

Refugee Ministry Update

Waterbrooke’s refugee ministry team has befriended the Rasooli family from Afghanistan, and for the past 10 months, we’ve helped them navigate their transition to life in the U.S.  We’ve assisted them with technology, paperwork, job seeking and purchase of a car, as well as just having fun with them together as friends. It’s been a blessing to everyone as we’ve shared God’s love with the family.

Now we’d like to assemble another team of 10 people so we can help a second family.  The time commitment is visiting the family once a month with another Waterbrooke team member and a monthly meeting of our team.

If you would  questions or would like to join us in “welcoming the sojourner” please contact Steve Kowalke at 952-456-1444 or sckowalke@yahoo.com.

Ministry Fair

Ministry Fair

On Sunday, September 21, ministry leaders at Waterbrooke will be available to share the goals of their respective ministries in the Ministry Hub after each service.

They'll have tables set up so you can visit with them to learn more about what they do, what their needs are and what their passion is.... to see if it aligns with yours!

We are always looking for people to join our teams so we can be more effective for sharing the gospel and advancing the Lord's kingdom.

We encourage you to take a little time after the service to speak with the ministry leaders and see if there are areas where you can use your gifts to serve!
