This Sunday, we are studying the call of Jesus in John 15:1-17 to abide in him. The Lord says these words in John 15:9, “As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you. Abide in my love.” One of the great challenges that we continually face as Christians is not drifting carelessly from a deep, abiding relationship with Jesus Christ.  

MariAnne and I  were just in Florida a couple of weeks ago with three of our grandchildren.  One day, we were at the beach and we were all in the water when suddenly there were flashing lights and sirens. A rescue jeep went flying past on the sand. A rescue boat with flashing lights went flying past us in the water. They were headed to a location about a quarter mile down from us. Someone was in distress. One of the common things that happens down there, or relatively common, is that people get caught in riptides. They are playing in the water, having fun, and then suddenly they realize that they have been and are being pulled out into the deep. Drifting into spiritual danger is a constant for every Christian. Growing in grace takes conscientious intentionality. Christ’s call to abide in Him is crucial for every believer. 

As we head into all the busyness of the Fall season, I think this will be an incredibly helpful passage as we begin to wrap up our summer series on the biblical doctrine of God’s love. Feel free to read the passage ahead of time. Looking forward to worshiping the Lord who loves us together with you this Sunday. Pray that God might meet all of us powerfully this week. We will be meeting weekly beginning September 16-November 18, on Tuesdays from 6:00 to 6:30 (Fellowship Time) 6:30 (Study Time & Small Group Time) 8:30 p.m. in the Waterbrooke sanctuary.

Back to School!

K-4th grade will be starting Sunday school on Sunday, September 28th. 

 - Downstairs during the second service, kids will be dismissed during worship.

 - Mike Savage and Joyce Casey will be teaching

 - Curriculum: "The Biggest Story" by Kevin DeYoung

5th-6th Graders will be starting October 5,  

 - Meet 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month

 - Meet in the Farmhouse after being dismissed during the second service.

 - Bruce Washington will be leading 

 - Truth:78 curriculum, “Fight the Good Fight”

It's that time of year again! College kids are off to school, some returning and some for the very first time. We would love to send monthly cards of encouragement to the students. Each month, they will get a snail mail card with an encouraging scripture and a reminder that we are praying for them.

Do you have a heart for the elderly? We would love for you to join the Visitation Team, part of Congregational Care.

We're looking for people who can visit and pray with our homebound members once each month. We are currently serving 6 members, with four teams of visitors, and would be grateful to have a few more teams.

Whether it’s bringing comfort, offering a listening ear, or simply sharing God’s love, your presence can make a big difference. If you’d like to be part of this ministry, see Joyce Casey.
