“Coming out of Egypt a Changed Man”.

The poet John Donne once wrote that it “humiliation is the beginning of sanctification.” Abram failed abysmally in Egypt but the great news is that God brought him out a far wealthier man. Yes, he was financially wealthy, but that’s not what mattered most to Abram. He was a far wiser and spiritually wealthier man. This is one of the great truths of the gospel: God will take our humiliations and work them for our transformation. Our sermon this Sunday is called “Coming out of Egypt a Changed Man”. I think this offers such great hope for all of us. How do you know when someone is beginning to be shaped by the power of God’s grace? It is not that they are suddenly perfect but there is a clear God-centered shift in their priorities. Let’s gather in person and online Sunday and talk about the kind of changes that God wants in each of our lives. If you want to read and preparation, read Genesis 13.

The life of Abraham is a fascinating one because, as we will see, Abraham’s journey was not so much a journey to the land of Canaan but actually a journey towards heaven (see Hebrews 11:16). His destination is not so much an earthly one but a spiritual one. It’s a journey of a fatherless and heirless man into the presence and promise of God. It’s a journey into the very heart of God. God takes a broken family and a broken man and shows him that He will make him into a Father of many nations who reflects the very heart of God the Father Himself. This is an invitation to all of you to bring your brokenness and join us in our study of the life of Abraham. May the story of Abraham’s journey from brokenness to blessing become the story of all who find the hope of God by faith as he did.
