"When Hope Takes Root"

This Sunday's message is called "When Hope Takes Root." In Genesis 21:22-34, Abraham is clearly beginning to really get a grip on the reality that God is going to do everything that He has promised. Hope is rooted in the certainty of the character and promises of God. It isn't rooted in our ability to see or believe it. God is the Everlasting God, and His promises never fail. This week we are going to talk about why we need to have the hope of the gospel take deep root into our lives. Too often, we allow the pessimism of the world around us or the discouragement of our own weakness to take root in our lives. We become grumpy, cynical, discouraged or depressed. Praise God that He so works that His servants begin both to see and to believe that everything God has promised, He is going to do. Has hope taken root in your heart? Let's worship together on Sunday and pray that the Holy Spirit makes our rock-solid hope in Christ a dominant conviction that shaped all of our lives. May hope take root in all our hearts.

The life of Abraham is a fascinating one because, as we will see, Abraham’s journey was not so much a journey to the land of Canaan but actually a journey towards heaven (see Hebrews 11:16). His destination is not so much an earthly one but a spiritual one. It’s a journey of a fatherless and heirless man into the presence and promise of God. It’s a journey into the very heart of God. God takes a broken family and a broken man and shows him that He will make him into a Father of many nations who reflects the very heart of God the Father Himself. This is an invitation to all of you to bring your brokenness and join us in our study of the life of Abraham. May the story of Abraham’s journey from brokenness to blessing become the story of all who find the hope of God by faith as he did.
